Globalization

According with Lena and Luis Hernandez(1) the globalization exists after the seventies of twenty century. It has been a process that changes many things in almost all the countries that suffer it. It may occur because of the different necessities of the people and the countries. All the countries around the world knew that they needed the help of other countries in many situations as productivity, economy and solving some problems. So, we are living the connections between many states in order to satisfy the global necessities. As every situation has an impact, it could be positive or negative, the globalization have it too. So, I am going to talk about some of them as advantages and disadvantages.

I am going to talk firs about the advantages. We can say that between the most important situations of the globalization is the increase of the communications. Nowadays, we are living a big and great deployment of the technology around the world. Many people born in the era of the technology and many people are adapting to this era. The reality is that we have to do it; we have to learn about the media because, it is a necessity on this time. Who is not updated it is back, because, everywhere (in the job, when we travel, etc.) the people, the society, the world, the globalization force us to be modernized and to know something about the technology, and who didn’t know anything about technology they may can´t grow in this develop era.

Another possible advantage is the facility to obtain some services and products because of the expansion and the growth of the variety of these things. It is possible that we can find the same product in different countries because; the markets have the opportunity to spread their products and services. Situation that benefits the consumer because, the productive companies are forced to give the best quality and, as consequence the competence is more everyday and everywhere. So, the people have to prepare themselves in order to have a good job and be in a great company. Nowadays, we have to study a lot and prepare ourselves, the globalization bring with it a lot of specialties and fields to study and work.

Finally, I am going to talk about one disadvantage, that I consider the most important because of the situation of the planet. As we know the globalization permits the growing of many businesses and, unfortunately many of them affects the nature in a big dimension. Pitifully, many businessmen didn’t have awareness and any care about the planet, a lot of them only think in produce, and produce their products and sell, sell and sell. And they didn’t concern how they do it; they only think in the incomes that they will receive. Many producers exploit in an incredible and unacceptable form the sources that the nature gives us to live. They need and have to be aware about it, and take precautions in order to diminish and if it is possible eradicated this problem because, it is a situations that affect to all of us.

The globalization as any other thing carries advantages and disadvantages. The problem is that in the major of the cases, we didn’t know to exploit the advantages and the good things or the consequence that some act can bring. Many people like or prefer to go or do the things for the “good and easy way”, they didn’t care or think about the bad impact that their acts will have. The businessmen have to be aware and not only they all of the citizens of the planet.

Peace

Nowadays, around the world, we are living some terrible situations inside the countries and between the countries. The people lost the sense of tolerance; many people don’t think that we have to respect the cultures, the thoughts of the others and the barrers also. The last point is a situation that is affecting Costa Rica, our country.

So, I want to talk about some problems that don’t permit that the peace be real, instead that our country is a “country of peace”. Very simple situations, that we can change in ourselves as respect the others, to be tolerant and take into consideration that we have to act according to the law, are actions that can change the way that we are living, in order to be in peace.

Why I think that respect is a relevant aspect to be in peace? Because, the humans deserve to be respect. We have to respect the authority, we can not act as wild animals everywhere. The tolerance is another important point. It is very interesting to know about people who didn’t have tolerance for some people, because of the skin color, because of the culture, because of many irrelevant aspects. I think that any reason is valid to reject anybody, because we have dignity and feelings.

All the things that I mentioned, I think that are related to the law. Many people, because of many situation as the people who didn’t respect the law didn’t get the punishment that should receive and the corruption of the law, act breaking the rules. This is a conduct that foreigners and national people do. They get united to do some illegal and dangerous “business” as traffic of drugs, have illegal night club to exploit girls, young people that become robbers. So, that situation affects the security and obviously the peace.

We have to be aware and be very careful because these attitudes can carry very heavy problems to our country and to “the peace” of it. One example of it is the situation that Costa Rica are living with Nicaragua, it is a problem of lack of respect to the barrers and to the Costa Rican people. So, we have to respect, to be tolerant and to act according to the law.

Penalties for drunk drivers

The Costa Rican culture is very special or particular, but unfortunately not in a good sense. We are distinguished to be lazy, vague, merrymakers, the people who do everything at the last time, the “pura vida” country, but not in a good way. Our compatriots lost the respect to the authority, to the laws, with the citizens and almost with themselves. We can see that situation every time and everywhere as: in the houses, in the streets, in the schools, highschools, universities, and between others, the most controversial place is in the roads. We have many problems with the conduct of the drivers. So, I am going to talk about: The adolescents conduct, the alcoholic problems that involves all ages and the precautions taken “to overcome” that.

It is incredible the conduct of the people in the roads, when they drive a car, especially the adolescents. I don’t know… may be they think that they make an impression in the ladies or I don’t know, but it is very ridiculous! They drive their cars (or their father car) as they stay in a competition racing, many of them didn’t assimilate that everybody have to have a conduct everywhere, but most in the roads. They should to understand that cars are to transport us place to place, not to play because, as we know exist many entertainment places to that.

Another situation that became in a controversial trouble is the drunk drivers. Nowadays, that means a headache to the state and for many people who lost any relative because one of them. It is very sad that many people didn’t think and didn’t take awareness about it. Who didn’t remember almost five cases about some tragedy because of the imprudence of the drunk drivers? I think that all! For me, one of the most astounding cases was when a drunk driver provoke that a lady lost their legs and obviously she can´t walk for the rest of her life! So, I think WHY the people do not care about it? Are they made with a plastic heart? I really don’t know what it is happening with our society!

The government thinks that with only “create” rude penalties this problem would have its finish point, but NOT. We can see that it situation didn’t have end. This is not a trouble about the “punish” because of the conduct, it is a problem because of the culture, of the lost of values, of the disinterest about the life, about all! The people didn’t have conscience, didn’t have soul, didn’t have heart, the people didn’t have feelings! As we have been seen this problem continues even those “rude penalties”. Though, the government does it, this problem will not disappear!

So, the change of that situation is in ourselves. With that, I don’t want to countering importance to the action of the state, of course that it is important. But, so many people didn’t care about pay a lot of money because they were drunk in the roads! These penalties would minimize the situation, but it didn’t can finish with that. And it is really sad for me, that every day we know about many people who dead because of the imprudence of the drivers. We have to take awareness and make an effort to help to change the sad and horrible circumstances of our country.

Poverty

Poverty

Costa Rica suffers an economical, society and security crisis. Those problems contribute to have another trouble that summarizes all of them: the poverty. Many people are victim about this situation, the inequality is present in our country, and the poor person is one that supports the worse part of it. I am going to talk about the three most important causes that are: few opportunities to study, the low interest of the adolescents to study and the state´s role about the education.

The few opportunities to study, for many people, cause the small amount of professionals. Several citizens said that, in our country, we don’t have a lot of employment, but for me it is not the real situation. I think that the reality that we live in Costa Rica is that doesn’t exist enough professionals to help our country to develop. I can see that we have many chances to get a job; the problem is that the people are not specialized or prepared.

Other problem could be the low interest of the adolescents to study. Nowadays, the juvenility prefers to stay in the streets doing bad things. They want to get easy money; they don’t want to make an effort and work to get what they need or what they desire. They only think in parties, liqueur and woman. Some youth people lose the sense of values, and unfortunately the parents are not present with them or they don’t have authority or control about their children.

The government has a lot of blame about the situation of poverty that we live in our country; because, they have an inefficient system. Talking about education, that I think that is the main reason of this problem. Many people need the economic help of the government in order to continue their studies, but it system is very incompetent. I said that because I know about cases of persons who pass two, three until four or six months without receive financial aid and they really need it to continue their studies, because the hard economic situation of the family.

So, as we saw this problem is not easy to solve, but if we make an effort we can diminish this situation. All together, we can make the difference in anything or job that we do if we do it well. The government is the principal key that can take action about it. The members of it should be honest and forget the corruption in order to have a better and productive country.

Current ethnic conflicts

As we know an ethnic group is many people who share similar things as language, religion, clothes, between others forms of life. They feel identify with a group of people and they defend their thoughts and living forms. This kind of group tends to fight with all the people who make feel them touched without respect and when they are discriminated. So, this kind of feelings can provoke an ethnic conflict as the current ethnic problems that we live nowadays.

There are many reasons that can promote the mentioned problem as political, economical, ideological, and society troubles. I think that all of them can be summarized in society problems… but, I am going to mention it divided. Why? Because in each type of those situations, different people is starring some of them, divided in two groups: citizens and the state. For example, the citizens are related to the ideological and, part of the economic and society problems, but in the two last problems they have the lower part of blame.

I consider that the state is the principal tool that can diminish and overcome this situation as possible. Because, in a list of political and economical problems, we can find the “bad distribution of sources and the power”, between the ethnics, according to Rodolfo Stavenhagen. The members of the government can take action in order to make a change and take into consideration all of the habitants (citizens) that live in their country… to think in all of them when they make a decision as possible to eradicated it.

It is very important that the state as the citizens having an attitude of respect and principally tolerance. I think that it is the key to face this important and transcendent problem, all of us may pay attention to that, because it affects too many people. It is incredible how too many people died in “the war of ethnics”. I don’t know why the people do not respect all of thoughts, all of customs… we have to learn that all of us are different. And we cannot pretend to force everybody in order that they be equal to us, because it is impossible.

I think that it id fine that the people feel identify with a special group, but in a pacific and tolerant way. We have to learn about the different ethnic groups instead of begin a war to them, for lack of respect and tolerance. Anybody should pretend to feel more than other people and less if the cost of it is the low self-esteem of the others. The tolerance is the way to live in peace and be happy with all.

** Migration **

Migration

For many years, the migration exists everywhere but, nowadays it is more controlled. Many countries suffer that and a lot of people want to leave of their countries. Some reasons of that situation may be: frauds, economic and society problems.

Talking about frauds, this situation affects so many people who want to travel to some country. They trust in some person or “travel agency”, but they are victims of the trick of the robbers. The thieves persuade and convince the victim in order to deceive and cheat them to steal their money.

Other situation is the economic problem. Many families need more salary that they receive in their actual job. So, that influence some people to leave their country to find a better job, but sometimes it didn’t happen because, they may didn’t find a better job, but they will receive a better salary.

The society problems will be related with the countries that are in wars. So, the people want to run away in order to avoid that. Other society problem could be the few opportunities to work because of the high amount of citizens or the government system.

If the countries want to avoid the migration, they may think in how they can contribute to improve it. They would do a change in their system as the migration people didn’t have access to a lot of benefits that they have now. So, I want to say that the governments can, with actions, delete the interest of the people to migrate. In another words, that didn’t exist reasons for the people to migrate.

** Weapons **

Proliferation of mass weapons

Nowadays it is very common to know about people who buy a gun in an easy way. For many people to see the news on T.V in relation to someone dead, involved in an exchange of shots is a regular situation. For me, it is not yet! I feel surprised every time that I hear or see very bad news. I cannot get used to it and I think that I will never do. It is very interesting how the technology can make a destructive weapon as nuclear weapon. For me, it is very astounding this kind of weapons. So, I want to talk about the ways that we can get a weapon, the responsibility of the society and the importance of the control of the weapons by the government.

As I said, nowadays the people can have a weapon easily. The gangsters are the main source of it, almost everybody knows where they can contact any criminal to get one. The groups of robbers, usually, interchange drugs for weapons. So, any person who is interested in some weapon is able to do the exchange. The thieves rob the gun of the police too, and use it to sell and buy drug or in order to do something in self benefit.

It is really incredible the things that have been happening in the schools and high schools. Some students take a gun and kill their teachers or director. I don’t understand how the parents did not know that their children have a gun! The parents don’t have the awareness about the things that their children are doing! They don’t have an idea! They are worried only about work and make money because, I don’t understand why they don’t know it and why they left alone their children, they only give them money and sent them to the school. But, about the preventions they don’t know anything!

And, what about homemade weapons? It is surprising the capacity of the prisoners, mainly to do it. I only think: why they didn’t use their creativity in order to do good works? I really don’t understand why the people want to be involved in crimes and be persecuted by the police, it is not life! The gangster have our society scared, because they have the power of the streets, they win the war to the state, because the state cannot control the delinquency. So, for that reason the people nowadays want to have a weapon in order to defend themselves, but in some cases they are killed with their own gun.

The situation that we are living is incredible and sad. Our society lost the sense of life, the values, mainly the honesty and the respect to the people, their belongings and their lifes. We cannot continue this way; we should make a change and think about what is happening around us? And make an effort in order to help to build a better country; it could be hard, but not impossible.

I wrote this letter in order to be grateful for your time and effort to do this activity. I only can attended the activity that was on Wednesday, 22nd. In my opinion this activity had a good relation with the Globalization because; nowadays almost all the business companies needs or have a web page to promote their services or other aspects around the world. So, it was great information about a tool that could be very useful for that people to have an excellent web page, with good, professional and security design.

For me the presentation was boring, because I really don´t know about this topic, the speaker wasn´t dynamic in the moment of the presentation, so that influence that the audience become distracted and they didn’t pay attention. I didn’t know about some words or terms that the speaker used, so I was really lost in some parts of the explanations in the presentation, because I don’t know about computer programs and many things about it.

I admire you and appreciate your excellent job. Is very important that people like you, are interested in report to us about different themes that have a great significant for everybody, today.

Measures taken against Global Warming

Nowadays, around the world, we are suffering the phenomenon of the global warming. Some years, we have been listening about that, and how we can help to minimize or delay the effect of the global warming. Why to minimize or delay the effect of the global warming? Because it is happening today! We are beginning to feel that it is real; these days are sunnier than some years ago, the rain is excessive, so we can witness that it is a real situation. As a result, I am going to remain you the actions that we can do in order to help our home. I am going to tell you some easy things that you can do as: advices of attendance that you need to have with your car, how can you save energy and some advices about precautions that you may have in your kitchen.

You can have some attendance with your car in order to help to protect the world. Few of them are: if you are thinking about buy a new car take into consideration the following things: select an efficient car, that doesn’t emit a lot of pollutants. But that it meet your expectations. If you have a car, try to use it only when it is necessary, accumulates your errands in order to save oil and if you can go with some mate to your work or transport some of them, do it in order to help us.

You can help from your house or office. With only use a modern refrigerator you can save energy, yes! Because it uses the energy efficiently, many of them were made in order to that reason, between others. So, use modern electrical appliances, you can identify those electrical appliances with tag that say Energy Star. You can contribute too if you use, in your house or office, fluorescents instead or normal light bulb (incandescent) because it has more “useful life” and it help you to reduce your beading. The main and important thing that you can do is save energy. We can mention too the importance of recycling, in order to diminish the garbage.

And finally, I am going to talk about what you can do in your kitchen to help us. It is important that you know about some basic things that you are able to do as: when you need to boil water, put in the pot or container the exactly quantity of water that you are going to use and put the lid of it. Because it helps that the water boiled faster and with that you are saving energy. And try to diminish the garbage that you produce when you cook like packs or some bottles, recycle it and everything that you can reuse.

So help us to diminish the effect of the global warning because as you see, it is not difficult to do awareness and think about your family and you!

My name is Kattia... I am 19 years old.

I am studing accounting, this is my second year in the university and I hope finish my studies the next year :)

I work in an office of accounting with my father, I started with him when I finished the highschool and I like it, so this is the reason because I am studing accounting.

I like to do sports and exercises, I like to be surrounded by nature and stay in places that inspire peace. And of course, stay with my family.

I consider myself as a quiet, friendly and honest person. But I could not be like that in some cases.. like all people I have bad moments too. I consider that I am a nice person.. I am nice if the people is nice with me, but if they isn't I isn´t too.

I hope to learn more and can improve and exploit the knowledge in this course. :)
